Instructors' Course 3rd November 2003 - Swindon Oasis

John and Alex attended this, the first Instructors Higashi course. Sensei Peter Spanton invited us all to Swindon, with the aim of homogenising the way kata is taught throughout the federation. We started off working through all five pinan katas, practising the bunkai along the way

Instructors and Assistant Instructors representing 19 different Higashi clubs

Chinto - Stork on a rock

Stole-uke. The whole class moving harmoniously as one!

We learnt more of the intricacies of the katas, as Sensei Peter Spanton encourages Dalton to try out the moves on Alex. Despite all of Alex's best efforts in this kata (kushanku) all that awaited him was a wrist lock and a front kick to the ribs!
Towards the end of the afternoon, we moved onto the higher grade katas. To the right the whole class is demonstrating their balance in chinto.
All in all, the course was an excellent learning experience. It was an honour to be in the same room as so many distinguished karate-ka. We are already eagerly awaiting the next Instructors Course!
