The Luton Lunatics were once again honoured to welcome Sifu Rob Simpson to the dojo as their guest instructor. Rob is one of the world's leading shaolin kung fu masters and his seminars always prove to be enlightening and a little frightening.

The seminar was four hours long again this year and we covered areas outside of karate including locks and throws, knife defences and staff techniques.

The locks and throws were against attackers grabbing one or both wrists, elbows or the throat and proved to be extremely effective with a minimum of effort.

Then we were taught staff techniques where we brushed up some of the skills taught to us by Sifu Rob Simpson over previous seminars.

Finally we moved onto defences against knife attacks including defending against both inexperienced and experienced knife fighters as both have to be treated differently.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable and enlightening lesson where we learnt to come to grips with the softer - but no less destructive - side of martial arts.
