Lynmouth Festival of Martial Arts 2011

Lynmouth is a quiet quaint town, the people are friendly and the air is fresh. The views from the coast are spectacular, and the drop from the cliffs to the sea can be a footstep away although the mountain goats make it look like a playground.

The lunatics made it down to Lynmouth on Friday night and were ready for an early morning of martial arts.

What followed was an amazing smorgasbord of styles that we had not had much exposure to. We learnt aikido, Ju Jutsu and a number of amalgamated styles.

We were most amazed by some of the simple ways of evading strangle holds in Ju Jitsu as well as controlling your opponent's body in Aikido.

Sensei John Hurley was honoured to be invited to take two seminars. The first one specialised in partner work and the second one focussed on the round house kick and a number of defences against it.

He was ably assisted by Alex in his demonstrations.

In the evening, we all retired to the pub in preparation for an early morning on Sunday.

Hangovers aside, we started with Escrima stick fighting led by Marcie Harding who made it all look so easy!

Our minds were buzzing with all our new moves as we made our way home after a fantastic weekend of martial arts.

Our thanks go to Jo Biggs for organising the festival and we look forward to returning!
