HKK Championships 2005 Rivermead, Reading - March 5th

The Luton team - James, Nadia, Ellie, Zahra, Sam and Ayushi with Sensei John Hurley at the front

The Luton Lunatics travelled to Reading to take part in this, the Spring HKK competition. There was another fantastic performance from the team with five out of the seven entrants winning medals.

This was truly a day for the ladies as Luton dominated the female events. Medal winners were as follows:

Kata

Samantha Wright (left) - Now a regular finalist in kata competitions, Sam achieved 3rd place in the senior mixed 4th-1st kyu kata category

Ayushi Sharma (left) - Back in her rightful place, Luton's very own WKC world champion scored a gold in the girls' 4th-1st kyu kata.

Zahra Majeed (middle) - Zahra held up the family name by getting Luton's second gold medal of the day. She got this in the boys'/girls' 6th-5th kyu kata.

Nadia Majeed (right) - Nadia won her seond prize in her second competition. This time it was the boys'/girls' 8th-7th kyu kata

Kumite

Ellie Austen (far right) - making sure that Luton was represented both in kumite and kata, Ellie brought home the bronze for the ladies' 7th-4th kyu kumite

Trophy winners - Nadia, Ellie, Zahra, Sam and Ayushi

All in all, this was a fantastic day out for the Luton Lunatics and we have won more medals in the three months of 2005 than in all of last year! This places Luton Higashi as the 5th highest scoring club in the country.

Well done to the team and especially well done to the medal winners!
