3rd HKK Championships 2003 Rivermead, Reading - November 8th

The Luton team - Ernesto, Jeff, John, Alex and Glen

Trophy winners Ernesto and Jeff with proud instructors John and Alex
The Luton Lunatics travelled to Reading to take part in this, the 3rd Annual HKK Championships. We were to take part in individual kumite (free sparring), team kumite and individual kata.
The day was a great success for the club and every member performed well.
Glen showed real fire and determination, and put on a spirited performance in the team kumite where he was matched against Andy Saunders, the England coach (about 10 grades above him!) and eventual winner of the individual kumite.
John and Alex were pleased by both securing victories against members of the national squad - John in the team kumite event and Alex in the individual kumite.

Ernesto Cesar - 1st place kata (8th-5th Kyu)

Jeff Archer - 3rd place kumite (8th-5th Kyu)
But the real stars of the day were Jeff and Ernesto. Jeff fought off a number of competitors to attain third place in the kumite
Well done Jeff!
And Ernesto fought off tough competition, from people up to two grades above him to bring back the gold for Luton in the kata demonstrations!
Well done Ernesto as well!
All in all, we had a great day out and were pleased to come away from the competition having made our mark and won some more trophies for the club.
We are already looking forward to the next competition in April!
