Luton Higashi Student of the Year Awards - December 2006

It is again time to publicly recognise the students who had put the most into the club and who had got the most out of it. This quarter's winners were:

Award winners - 'Mad Doc', Ken, Zahra (award picked up by sister Nadia), Hiroko, Kayleigh and Enrico

Junior

Bronze - Kenji Kemp. Kenji has worked very hard this year and has made very good progress. He is very determined and consistently takes the black belts' attempts to toughen him up in good spirits. And guess what - he's toughened up!

Silver - Zahra Majeed. This has been another good year for Zahra. She won a clutch of medals at the 2006 HKK National Championships and even had a stint in the HKK Squad.

Gold - Kayleigh Farrow. This has been another fantastic year for Kayleigh. She also won an armful of medals at the recent HKK Nationals, was awarded Student of the Week at Ogwen Bank and also got her brown belt in record time.

Senior

Bronze - Alan 'Mad Doc' Wiles. Doc has recently started karate and has taken to it with dedication and aggression that has helped him to make fantastic progress. He double graded in his first grading which is a huge achievement in itself.

Silver - Hiroko Penhallow. Hiroko can be describes as the club's silent achiever. She hardly makes a noise and then turns in excellent grading results. We think there is a crazed animal just waiting to come out . . .

Gold - Enrico Puddu. Few people can beat Enrico for pure determination and refusal to give up. He has been training with us for the last three years. It has paid off as he was also awarded his brown belt on the same day as this award. His mind moves in mysterious ways and his fighting style is so 'unique' that even the black belts are wary about fighting him!
