John Hurley - Chief Instructor

4th Dan

Other styles: Shotokan karate - 1st Dan

John Started training in Wado Ryu Karate in South East London in 1983. He reached 3rd Kyu in four year under Sensei Fellows of Penge Higashi.

He switched to Shotokan Karate in 1988 as there were no Higashi clubs in Luton. He was awarded his Blackbelt in 1991.

From there he found the Hitchin Club and trained under Sensei Carter. He traded in his 1st Dan in Shotokan for a 3rd Kyu in Higashi (says something about the difference in standards!). He has been training in Higashi ever since.

He has worked as a doorman for the last ten years and has experience in a number of martial arts such as Muay Thai Boxing (under Master Chris Price, South London), Shaolin Kung Fu (under Sifu Rob Simpson, Luton) and Wing Chun Kung Fu (under Sifu Alan Legg)
